QUEENSBURY, New York (Aug. 16, 2022) — Ĵý is proud to announce appointment of Susan Corlew as the college’s director of Continuing Education and Workforce Innovation.
Corlew is a lifelong Queensbury resident and longtime educator. She taught high school English for more than 25 years, most recently at La Salle Institute in Troy, where she helped institute academic programs to include female students.
“We are thrilled to welcome Susan to our team,” said Caelynn Prylo, dean of Continuing Education. “Her expertise in the classroom and developing curriculum and academic programs will be an incredible asset to our greater community.”
Corlew earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Siena College and a master’s degree in Curriculum Development from SUNY Plattsburgh at its Ĵý branch campus. She taught in Lake George from 1993 to 2000, and in Glens Falls from 2006 to 2014.
“I want to give back to the community I live in,” she said. “Working at LaSalle, I felt like my life was in Troy and I was just sleeping in Queensbury. When I saw the opening at Ĵý, I thought, ‘Aha, I can’t miss this opportunity.”
At Ĵý, she will oversee coordination of Continuing Education, noncredit courses offered to community members, and Workforce Innovation, which provides regional businesses and employees opportunities to receive customized training.
“I’m excited to respond to the needs of residents, manufacturing and industry,” Corlew said. “Whether for general interest or to help build worker skill sets, we will provide coursework for people to be the best versions of themselves.”
Ĵý’s Office of Continuing Education offers several noncredit courses for students ages 9 to 99 online, at the college’s Queensbury campus, at its Ĵý Saratoga Center, at the Culinary Center in downtown Glens Falls and, starting in Fall 2022, at Saratoga Springs High School.
